This beautiful and hardwearing furniture is made from traditional handloom rugs on a hardwood frame. A high wool content allows vibrancy and depth of colour and also allows greater detail to be incorporated into the design. Made in India on a fair trade basis.
The highly skilled weavers use either one of the looms in the weaving factory or supplement income with weaving income earned in their own home on looms provided by the exporter. The pattern and raw materials are provided to the weavers and payment is made on collection. Our supplier’s Indian agents visit and audit the production facilities to ensure that working conditions are acceptable and that fair trade guidelines as set by the WFTO are in place. Kilim production is a skilled art which is passed down from generation to generation and the work attracts good rates of pay. The business provides valued employment to more than 50 people directly and hundreds more on a self-employed piecework basis. The footstool is mango wood and are fire tested and compliant with UK regulations.
